Our Community

One Day on Earth is committed to nurturing a supportive, vibrant, tolerant, and creative community. We hope to be as open as possible and allow you to celebrate your personal perspectives freely. It is exciting and revolutionary to be able to share perspectives of such quality with people across the world in one place.

We want to be sure that you put your passion into your videos and photos taken on 11.11.11. We strongly support freedom of speech, religion, and beliefs. We also want to be sure that other members of the community feel welcome and respected. We prohibit any form of solicitation that could be construed as harassment or destructive.

We are a community of compassionate, intelligent, creative people that strive to celebrate our diversity and understand our similarities and differences as a global community. In short, be respectful and give to the community, and the community will give back.

Do's and Don'ts

We have set out some important do’s and don’ts on how to participate in the One Day on Earth project. We believe the items to do are positive and will be rewarding; the don’ts are negative and will be grounds for removal from the community.

Do:

Give positive feedback as comments
Have fun and engage other participants
Use this as an opportunity to do something you have never done before
Share your video and results with everyone you know
Promote any film or project that will be shared with the One Day on Earth community on 11.11.11
Create groups to collaborate
Learn from your experience
Engage your local charity, school, or community to participate
Practice tolerance and patience
Debate ideas in a constructive way
Report users who are abusing the site

Don't:

Spam or message dozens of people the same solicitation.
Promote a commercial project that is not connected with the 11.11.11 event
Use this site as a dating service
Post comments that have no constructive value or are off-topic
Proselytize your religion or political agenda through messages or comments to people you don’t know. They may find this offensive. Save it for your video creation.
Do anything that could be interpreted as harassment in any way
Upload content you don’t own
Upload anything that may be inappropriate: No sexually explicit material or porn. No videos that incite hatred, include hate speech, defamatory or discriminatory speech or videos depicting unlawful acts or extreme violence. If you think you may have a topic that may be unfairly censored feel free to email info@onedayonearth.org and we can evaluate it on a case-by-case basis.

Note: We reserve the right to suspend a member at any time for any reason.

Perspective: We are creating a time capsule for the whole world to better understand itself.
We strive to find out who we are as human beings because it is beneficial to our sustainability as a species.
Inclusivity: The project is free and open to all people, cultures, creeds, and nationalities.
Individuality: We are here to empower your voice. The individual, you, are being given a chance to put something in the world's time capsule. You have one day to document what matters most to you.
This is a celebration of individual beliefs, expression and perspective.
Community : We strive to connect people through both their differences and similarities. We strive to create and support future collaborations amongst participants. We strive to create a community that fosters communication.
Education: The process of creating, interacting and viewing our project will have educational value for students of all ages. We will strive to support any educational institution that wishes to participate in the project with the necessary tools to do so.
Technology: We will always embrace any technology that better allows us to live up to our principles. We realize this project is only now possible because of the evolution of technology and we will always grow with technology to make an even better picture of the world.

What is the goal of the project?
To create an open shareable archive and documentary film of the world on 11.11.11. We hope to enlighten, teach and benefit humanity through global collaboration and inspired media creation. We seek to find a deeper understanding of life on this planet.
Are there rules to using the site?
Yes, please review our Do's and Don'ts under the How Do I Participate? section above.
Is this a one-time event?
No. The first One Day on Earth was 10.10.10, 11.11.11 will be the second and we expect to have many more down the road.
Why 10.10.10 and 11.11.11?
It’s easy to remember. We needed to pick a day that people could remember and gravitate towards for their own reasons. 10.10.10 and 11.11.11 are as unique and normal as any other day on Earth.
Does everything need to be created on 10.10.10 or 11.11.11?
Yes, for all official submissions. But this is a community, so please feel free to share anything you’d like on your profile, discussion, or group pages before or after 11.11.11 and into the future.
How is this project financed?
We are a project of the Creative Visions foundation 501(c)(3), which means we have been surviving on donations of people like you, lots of amazing volunteers, and in-kind contributions. We are actively seeking appropriate sponsors. If you believe your company might be a good fit for our project, please email info@onedayonearth.org to find out about sponsorship opportunities.

Do I get a copy of the final film?
Yes, If you participate and contribute at least 1 minute of legal content to the project you will receive online access to the final film.

I would like to report abuse of the One Day on Earth site or project what do I do?
We strive to sustain a positive and supportive community that is interested in the public good. We take any abuse of our community infrastructure very seriously. Please feel free to report any grievance to the Report an Issue Page. Please include links and a detailed explanation of the issue.
I wish to document a controversial subject, what is your stand on censorship?
We do not desire to censor content. However, certain subjects carry both legal and logistical issues that could be harmful to our network if not properly regulated. You are responsible for your own content. No sexually explicit material or porn. No videos that incite hatred, include hate speech, defamatory or discriminatory speech or videos depicting unlawful acts or extreme violence. If you believe you have a special topic that is important, but fear it may violate our guidelines, or present a personal safety issue in crediting you to the content please email info@onedayonearth.org with the subject heading "special topic".

Submission Guidelines

Save all your original high resolution content: given that compressed video and photo files hosted on our site are not of a high enough quality to use in a motion picture, broadcast, or print, it is critical that you save all your original high resolution elements.
Should my video be edited? There is no requirement for editing. In fact, if you intend to edit, we ask that you upload and share you best selection of footage before you do a fully sculpted edit. This will increase your chances of being prominently featured.
What is the maximum video size and length? Vimeo is our video services partner. All technical specifications are in line with their requirements. In accordance with Vimeo, upload file size is limited to 500 MB. However, you are welcome to upload multiple clips within the limitations of your Vimeo account.
Should I compress my videos before uploading them? Possibly. It could mean you can submit a longer upload of equal quality. Please see Vimeo's compression suggestions for the best advice on how to do it.
What video formats are accepted? As per Vimeo’s guidelines we accept all resolutions in the following file types: asf, asx, avi, divx, dv, dvx, m4v, mov, mp4, mpeg, mpg, qt, wmv, 3g2, 3gp, 3ivx and 3vx.
Who owns my content? You do. You will retain ownership and rights. In order for us to create a film and other creative projects you will need to agree to grant One Day on Earth the nonexclusive royalty free license.
What is the submission deadline for content? Uploaded or post marked by December 11th 2011. If you know in advance that transportation of content may be difficult or tardy based on regional resources please feel free to email us at info@onedayonearth.org with questions or concerns.
Photo Submission Specifications: Photos may not exceed 10MB in size. We support photos in .jpg, .gif, and .png formats.
