Share your water.

Water.org works to end the world's number one health problem—lack of access to safe water and sanitation—and helps fight this urgent issue, one community at a time.

Facts about Water:
  • -Nearly 1 billion people – about 1 in 8 – lack access to clean water. More than twice that many, 2.5 billion people, don't have access to a toilet.
  • -More than 3.5 million people die each year from water-related disease; 84% are children. Nearly all deaths, 98 % occur in the developing world.
  • -On average, women in the developing world walk 3.7 miles a day for water.

CALL TO ACTION: Share video of your water

Without water, life would not exist. It is a prerequisite for all human and economic development. This 11.11.11 we invite you to share with the world how you access life's most precious commodity. Whether tap, well, river, or otherwise, capture your water source on video and add it to the world document. Together, our efforts will remind the world not to take water access for granted and will bring new attention to water access inadequacies that need to be improved. Footage that you create will potentially be used in a feature film, as well as a short film created specifically for Water.org, and will live in perpetuity in One Day on Earth's global archive.

Guidelines

  1. Identify your most frequented—or most visually intriguing—water source. Ex: sink, reservoir, hose, water bottle, lake. Feel free to think outside the box.
  2. Record your selected water source. Make sure to hold your shot steady for at least 1 minute. Once you've got your shot, try to play with composition and framing--close ups, wide shoots, different angles. Get creative!
  3. Feel free to take things further. Consider investigating the quality control and accessibility of water in your community. Seek out images and interview individuals related to this topic.
  4. When you upload your video please be sure to tag it "water.org".
To collaborate beforehand join the Water.org group.
